SOLD - FOR SALE: MICRO SEIKI DD-40 Turntable - w Ortofon Cartridge, MA-505 Tonearm, Spare Cartridge
The classic, sought after Micro Seiki DD-40 Turntable. Asking $750 CDN.
This turntable comes with a used Ortofon MC 20 Cartridge, the superb MA-505 Dynamic Balance Tonearm, and an additional A Static MF-400 Cartridge.
If you clicked on this add you probably know what you are looking for. This is a tremendous and highly regarded turntable, made for discerning audiophiles when turntable design was reaching it’s height in the late 70s/Early 80s.
The MA-505 arm itself is so highly sought after it’s been known to sell for between $350-$550 USD!
The turntable is in fantastic condition, as you can see from the photos. I’m the second owner. The first owner had bought it new in the early 80’s but immediately jumped on the CD bandwagon so this turntable/cartridge had somewhat limited use from the first owner, who simply kept it carefully in storage until it went to me.
It’s really one of the nicest vintage tables I’ve seen with a beautiful rose-wood finish, free of any major blemish. Even the dustcover is in quite good condition and works perfectly. It shows some scratches here and there if you look for them, but presents nicely when clean. (Often it seems if there is an issue mentioned in a DD-40 add, it's that it doesn't have a dustcover, or the dustcover has cracked hinges etc. So finding a DD-40 with a working dustcover is a good thing!)
Everything works. Speed is reliable at 33 1/3. At 45 I thought there was a bit of drift, but once I tweaked it for 45 using the speed adjustment, it dialed in nicely. In fact, in general the speed/wow/flutter of the table measured better on my iphone RPM app than the more expensive turntable that has replaced it! (You can still get replacement belts for this turntable, btw).
I don’t know the hours of the cartridge, but as I said the original owner didn’t use it a lot, and I’ve put very little time on the turntable as I mostly used a digital set up. The original cartridge certainly sounds great to my ears. I was given a spare A Static MF-400 Cartridge with the deck, which I never used and I believe the original owner never used.
It’s apparently a very nice cartridge as well - I’ve seen the “MF300” version go for $250 USD. I’m throwing this cartridge in free.
Here’s the Micro Seiki DD-40 Service manual:
Please don't lowball me as this is the best deal I’ve seen for this turntable, especially in this condition.
I do not want to ship a turntable, so this would be a sale FOR LOCAL PICK UP. (I’m downtown Toronto).
